LINDY HOP WITH DOMINIC BOYER
Lindy Hop has a relaxed pulse and room to play with the music. Swing-outs carry you from a closer position into open hold and back together. Learn the rhythm, footwork and partner connection with me in Mount Pleasant, Vancouver.
Private lessons are for one or two people. Come on your own or with a partner.

Lindy Hop is a swing dance with a relaxed pulse and an elastic connection between partners. In a swing-out, you move from a closer position into open hold, circle one another and come back together. Rock steps and triple steps keep the rhythm going as the partnership stretches and returns.
Six-count and eight-count patterns can flow into one another, with turns and changes of place adding variety. There is room for both partners to play with footwork and answer the music. The dance can feel easy and swinging or quick and lively, depending on the song.
A swing-out brings several things together: the rhythm in your feet, a change of position and the connection with your partner. We can work on each part, then put them together with music.
You do not need a large collection of patterns to begin. Rock steps, triple steps and changes of place give us material to repeat and develop. As the timing becomes more familiar, we can add turns and move between six-count and eight-count patterns.
A change in the footwork can answer something you hear in the music. The shared pulse helps you stay together as a familiar pattern takes a different shape. Both partners have room to contribute.
If you already dance Lindy Hop, bring a swing-out, turn or transition you want to refine. We can look at your weight changes, the timing between you and how the connection stretches and returns.
The way I teach depends on how you learn. I’ll explain things, show you, and dance with you. If something isn’t clicking, we’ll try a different approach. We’ll take time to work through the movement and practice it with music.
If you come on your own, I’ll be your dance partner. If you come with a partner, I’ll help each of you with your movement and with how you dance together. You’re welcome to learn leading and/or following.
