Ballroom Dance Lessons in Vancouver
Ballroom opens many different ways to move: the sweep of Waltz, the ease and play of Foxtrot, the sharpness of Tango, or the rhythm of Cha Cha and Rumba.
Ballroom dance lessons take place in my Mount Pleasant studio in Vancouver. Instruction is private, for individuals and couples. Come with one dance in mind, prepare for a social occasion, return to dancing after time away, or begin without knowing which style will suit you yet.
You do not need to bring a partner.

What Would You Like to Dance?
Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango and Viennese Waltz travel through the floor in very different ways. Cha Cha, Rumba, Samba and Mambo bring their own relationships between rhythm, timing and body movement.
You can begin with one dance or explore several. Sometimes a piece of music points clearly toward a style. Sometimes the first lesson is where we discover what feels natural, interesting or worth pursuing.
Begin where you are
Your Starting Point
If you have never danced before, we begin with enough structure to let you move with the music and understand where your weight is going. A small pattern gives us somewhere to begin; timing, balance and partnership grow from there.
If you already dance, the lesson can move directly into the area you want to develop: technique, musicality, lead and follow, transitions, expression, choreography or a particular Ballroom style.
Responsive instruction
How I Teach
Lessons adapt to what is happening in the motion. I may explain the movement, demonstrate it, dance with you, change the rhythm, make the movement smaller, or approach the same idea from another direction until it begins to settle in the body.
Solo or together
One Person or Two
Private lessons are for one or two people.
Come on your own to learn, practise or deepen your dancing. If you come as a couple, we work with both people and with what happens between lead and follow: how a movement is invited, heard and answered while the music continues.

What Students Say
“I'm almost 65 years old and I'm so tired of not being able to dance. … Well, it's now two months later. I can dance a decent waltz, foxtrot, rumba, cha cha, hustle, west coast swing and two step. I have learned to follow—probably the most important skill of all. I have confidence.”
— Jane R., Vancouver
“I've taken many group lessons and private lessons over the years, but this is the most supportive learning environment that I've encountered.”
— Dawn T., Vancouver, BC
